Queens in Action

The Miss New York Plus America Pageant is not just about gowns, crowns, and stilettos. We belong to a Sisterhood of Miss Plus America Queens that are changing the world, one tiara at a time!

We are proof that pageantry does not just entertain, but can save lives! In 2011, the Miss Plus America Pageant made history when it crowned Michelle Alexander as Ms Plus America. She is the first openly HIV positive person to be awarded a National title in a pageant. In her reign, she spread awareness and prevention information that changed the trajectory of many lives.

Our Queens may come from different states and backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: a desire to leave the world better than they found it. Check out some of our Queens in this slideshow.

Queen of the Year: Brooke Lugo Smith

Brooke Lugo Smith was crowned as our new Miss New York Plus America Lifetime Queen. After winning the title of Miss New York Plus America 2006, Brooke Lugo Smith has gone on to show the world the true definition of a Queen. She is the star of The Oxygen Network's reality show, My Big Fat Revenge and vocalist behind many commercials ranging from clients like Old Navy and Kia Motors. But the Pop Artist and her husband, Colin G Smith had their world turned upside down last year when their daughter died after 40 weeks of what was supposed to be a "healthy" pregnancy. Kennedy Grey passed away due to an undetected cord around her neck and additional knot in her umbilical cord. The couple had gone to the hospital several times complaining of low fetal movement. Unfortunately, Colin and Brooke were sent home after 40 minutes of basic testing, being told that the low fetal movements were due to their baby being "lazy." But even after losing her daughter, Brooke was determined to use her platform to help others. After doing stillborn research, "Knot my baby" was birthed which became The Baby Resource Center, which provides awareness and advocacy to aid in successful pregnancies while offering recovery resources to surviving families.

Queen Rachael Giving Back

Our Miss New York Plus America 2014, Rachael Yvonne Davis is all about female empowerment and helping the next generation of young girls succeed. When she heard of their need, she pooled her resources together to gift 40 dancers of the Skyline High School Silhouettes to a make-over. The girls were confident and had a great performance. Their team won the game! Here are the ladies in action at the big game with a cameo from our beautiful Queen.
